Choosing from Many RC Airplane Kits

RC Airplane kits come in all shapes and sizes. Some are amazing scale replicas of real-life airplanes whilst others are somewhat unrealistic, but built for a particular purpose and don't need to trade on their good looks.
We all have individual needs, preferences and experience levels, and if you've seen what's available, there is definitely an aircraft to suit every kind of RC Airplane Enthusiast no matter what their skill level.

ARF v's RTF

RTF Airplane kits are clearly the most popular choice amongst newcomers, and those who would rather be out in the open air flying instead of building their dream aircraft from scratch.
Those who would prefer ARF Kits are obviously the opposite, they love adding their blood, sweat and tears to their pride and joy, and then enjoying that 'proud parent' feeling one gets from seeing their creation take to the sky for the very first time - knowing they made it all happen.

Electric v's Gas

Once again, this comes down to personal preference. Electric RC Airplanes are easier to maintain and great for the beginner as it's all 'batteries and chargers', straight-forward and clean.
Gas Airplanes on the other hand get more mileage, and the seasoned pros will tell you that gas powered planes offer better performance and a more enjoyable flying experience due to the extended flying time.

Micro planes, Trainers and Jets - OH MY!

There are so many different types of RC Model Airplanes, that I would probably bore you to tears if I went into detail on even half of them, so I'll only list a few to keep you interested.

  • Mini and Micro airplanes are suitable for indoor flying because they're extremely light.
  • Trainer Airplanes are primarily designed to... you guessed it, teach you how to fly. they're usually fairly basic in design, but a really great starting point for the inexperienced.
  • Jets and Aerobatic Airplanes are designed specifically with aerobatic manoeuvres in mind, and as cool as it is to watch, I'd leave the flying to the more experienced pilots.
  • Warbirds and Vintage Airplanes are a favourite of many because of the attention to the detail of their design characteristics. They are often meticulously detailed replicas and they are awesome to watch.
  • Float Planes are the kind that can land or take off from water. They're really good fun, however I can't say that fetching a submerged plane is all that much fun, so I'd suggest perfecting your ground-based landing skills before getting to excited over one of these.

So as you can see, with all the options available it can be awfully hard to choose the right RC Airplane Kit for you. But the good news is that, like many of us, you can own as many as you like to satisfy all of your preferences, flying conditions or days of the week!. I guess it's kind of like how women need so many shoes :o)
